Youth Group on October 21 is ...
Modern Christian Family
On October 21, instead of traditional St. Luke's youth group, Youth Groups and Families from several Atlanta Presbyterian Churches will be gathering for the first of three AWESOME events. This is sponsored by Montreat Conference Center and 9 churches around Atlanta, including St. Luke's!
~Youth will gather for games, energizers, and an activity about hunger. It's a fun time for our youth group to meet and hang out with lots of other teenagers & their youth groups.
~Parents and Caregivers will explore why teen brains are ruled by emotions and adults by logic; pinpoint how to help your teen thrive during a time of complex neural development; and discover how you and your youth can improve communications and open channels for feedback. This portion is led by Dr. Rodger Nishioka, the Benton Family Associate Professor of Christian Education at Columbia Theological Seminary.
~Younger Kids in your Family will have childcare provided that is safe and fun!
IMPORTANT DETAILS in order to ATTEND:
Families need to meet at Trinity Presbyterian Church (3003 Howell Mill Road Northwest Atlanta, GA 30327) and arrive by 6:00 p.m. There are no other youth group programs this evening at St. Luke's, so please try to attend this event. Unlike our usual youth nights, there is no dinner so eat first or on your way. This event is one of three events offered this year. You must Register for these events and there is a cost ($20 for each family for each event, or all three for $45, and let us know if you need help with this cost), CLICK HERE TO REGISTER. At this event there is a canned/dried food drive for Atlanta Community Food Bank, so try to bring a food item or 10 to donate.
Do you love this idea so much you want to volunteer? This event needs a few parents to help with setup, parking, etc at 5:30 p.m. Email Phil if you are interested philbrown@slpres.org. OR are you a youth elder and want to serve communion at this event? Perfect, email Phil.
All of this is to offer a holistic model of youth and families ministry. Our youth programs are great places and experiences for your youth's faith formation, but we get them only a couple hours a week. So families have the most time together for faith formation, and this program is to support your family as you raise teens in the Christian faith. So come, join other parents and teens going through similar times.
